FISSURE SEALANTS
Fissure sealants help stop tooth decay
This is a safe and painless form of treatment to stop tooth decay.
It involves the placement of a clear plastic material to coat and seal the pits and/or fissures in the biting surfaces of the back teeth to protect them from agents, which may cause tooth decay.
Fissure sealant procedures are quick and straightforward, usually only taking a few minutes per tooth. It's totally pain free and your teeth will not feel any different afterwards.
This dental hygiene treatment lasts for many years. It's a good idea to come in for regular check ups, but no more than you would to maintain a good general state of health with your teeth and gums.
The ideal time to apply fissure sealants is when permanent teeth start to come through - usually around six or seven years of age. Treatments can be done right up until 14 years of age.
