LASER CAVITY DETECTION
Catch cavities as soon as possible to stop further damage...
Tooth decay is becoming harder to detect thanks to the fluoride circulating in drinking water and toothpaste which hardens tooth enamel.
Decay is then forced to find miniscule cracks in the enamel before breaking through to the softer tissue beneath. This means that healthy looking teeth can ‘conceal’ the real damage beneath the surface. This is where laser cavity detection comes in.
Laser cavity detection utilizes a pen-like instrument that reflects light of the tooth enamel surface, but when it hits a decayed part of the tooth enamel it reflects light differently so that the attached readout instrument can notify the dentist of a compromised piece of tooth.
If weaknesses in the enamel are detected early enough then cavities can even be prevented with a prescription of fluoride to stop it from forming at all. If a cavity is detected before it invades the soft tissue below the enamel, then a filling may be the required treatment.
If you think you might have cavities or tooth decay, it is important that you make an appointment with us as soon as possible to catch them before they do any more damage to your teeth. Contact our experienced and friendly staff for more information.
