Mouthguards

A mouthguard is a protective device that covers the teeth and gums to prevent and reduce injury to the teeth, arches, lips and gums especially during contact sports. If your child plays a contact sport or sport where accidental collisions may be possible like rugby or hockey, we recommend they wear a mouthguard.
We do not recommend cheap ill-fitting off the shelf mouthguards. These tend to fit poorly and offer minimal protection. A properly fitted dental mouthguard is a much better option.
Fissure sealant helps stop tooth decay
Fissure sealant is a safe and painless treatment to help prevent tooth decay. It is commonly used on children's teeth. The treatment involves placing a clear plastic coating on the back teeth to seal the pits and fissures on the biting surfaces. This prevents bacteria and germs from getting in and causing decay.
